GSL Tournaments for 2000

The CERN Softball Club, together with the family and friends of Bernie Sutton, are pleased to announce the second annual Bernie Tourney. The two-day softball extravaganza will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 24th and 25th, at Higgs Field on the CERN Site II in bustling Prévessin, France. Participants will include the six regular teams from the Geneva Slow-Pitch League. More details can be found here.
The second annual Reg's Dregs tourney will occur on (an unknown date) at (an unknown location). Participants will throw their names into a hat and teams will be drawn at random. Single elimination determines the winner. Bring food and drink - grills will be available.
This year's Spartan Gourmand Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 30th and October 1st in Gastronomic Lyon. It will be hosted by the Lyon Spartans who will probably set up a web site with details here. Below will be a list of current CERN participants.

Participants may wish to contact somebody for hotel reservations. Here are the details from last year:
The hotel in Lyon is "l'hotel Mercure de Charbonnières", 78 bis route de Paris, tel. 0478 34 72 79. I really don't know where it is but somebody somewhere from the team does. The rooms run about FF495 for a double room plus a 10% off. Rooms available with connecting room for children will be an additional FF250 or there is another double room large enough to fit 2/3 children is FF495 for those who are interested. If anyone wants this hotel please let me know and I will make the necessary bookings. Don't forget to let me know if you will be staying Friday/Saturday nights. Breakfast will be FF60 per person, children free. Local tax FF2,00. Many thanks and see you soon, Marcella.
For tourneys at Mission Field, grills will be fired up some time around noon. Bring food to cook. Beverages, including beer and soft drinks, will be provided by the Marines for a nominal fee. This money helps to fund their end of the year banquet, so please do not bring your own drinks.
I'll post weather predictions here as tourney day approaches. I get them from the Swiss teletext and from Rain or Shine Forecast. These guys are usually pretty close.
All cars must be parked within the grounds and not blocking the driveway leading up to the large house. Please park on the grass if necessary. Families are welcomed and, in fact, encouraged to show up. Parents, however, are asked to take care that children and other small domestic animals, stay clear of the playing field, to prevent injury. Thank you.
In addition (or exception) to the usual ASA (or USSSA) rules, a short list of softball rules particular to Mission Field has been drawn up and can be found here. Please take time to look them over and send ammendments and suggestions Steven.Goldfarb@cern.ch before the games. The point is to minimize misunderstandings and time wasted on arguments during the games.
